I was keeping my .22 repeating rifle at my dad's house... Well, he found it, and got pissed off (he is against these kind of things) and he took it and said that he won't give it back and gave me an anti-gun lecture...
What are the legal issues here... I'm a 20 year old college kid, so, I kind of live there when I'm not at college (I'm the one paying for college by the way, my dad is broke)... can he take it away? I have the right to bear arms, and I have kept the gun responsibly for an entire year...
I'm going to listen to him and sell it, but he says that he does not trust me... actually, he thinks I bought the gun to shoot him - WHICH IS SO DAMN FAR FROM THE TRUTH...
the gun is registered in my name...

can he legally sell the gun off, or does he have to give it back to me, and I sell it?

It's his property, so he can determine whether or not you may keep a weapon on his property.

Interesting question. Outright, I'd say he has no right to hold it. It's not like you moved off to college and never come home. If you had moved off never to return and left the gun there, then yes, he has a legal right to seize it and do what he wishes. That would be abandonment of personal property.
Depending on how far you want to push the issue, if he adamantly refuses, you would have to sue him in small claims court. The police probably couldn't help, I'm not sure. Talk to someone there just for the sake of asking. They may be able to convince him to give it back on the grounds of an illegal seizure with them saying "Well if you don't give it back he could sue you or have you arrested (which I'm sure you would not do)".

possession is .... as they say... 9 tenths of the law.....
do you have proof that the gun is yours? if not, then basically, as soon as you left it at your fathers house, you gave up rights to it. on the other hand, you should have told him it was there. he has every right to be angry with you about this, after all.... it is his house, not yours.
if it is registered in your name and you can prove this, then no... legally he cannot sell it. but he can refuse to have it on his property.
sure, you have the right to bear arms... on your OWN property. if you have a problem with his lectures, buy your own house and keep it there.

Like most have said, he can remove it but can't keep it from you. It's your property not his. Like Edgar R said, your not going to prosecute him. Ask him to go with you to sell it, take the money and buy another if you like. It was not responsible of you to keep it at his house without telling him though,

Legally,
1. He has the right to not allow guns in his house.
2. It is your property and he has NO right to it. You are legally an adult.
3. Get a place of your own. If you are paying for your own school see if you cvan get enough money to live in a seperate house dn then you can have as many weapons as you like.

legally you can press charges and make him return it or go to jail, but hes your dad so your not going to do that. but if yout livng under his roof and you dont have a lease or rental agreement it doesnt matter if you slide him some money, its his roof.

If you are keeping the gun at his house, he has the right to take it or have you remove it from his house. If you want to keep it, store it somewhere else.
