most of the baseball players i see started playing the game at a young age.. anyone know any successful major league pitchers that did not even touch a baseball until college? also.. sorry one more question.. was there another player other than babe ruth who is an ace pitcher and a home run slugger?

Warren Spahn got a late start because of WWII. Rocky Colavito and Ted Williams each pitched in games. So did Jose Canseco. There is of course Rick Ankiel.

I believe David Wells debut was in 1987 as a reliever but never really got to play until he was 30. He really started doing well after he turned 32 (1995), first all star game he ever appeared in that year. He's been on pretty much every team in the MLB, I don't know if that's good or not... HA HA! But he was pretty old when he started pitching full time.
