I bought a 150 dollar TI-89 for calculus and over the summer the batteries leaked. I took them out and removed as much of the acid as possible with paper towels. Is there anything I can do to remove the majority of acid? The calculator is not working because the acid is still on the current connectors.

Thanks

Alkaline batteries contain no acid.

You need to use distilled white vinegar on the contacts to clean up any residue from the battery, which will consist primarily of dried potassium hydroxide(a strong base).

This, in my experience, is often enough to get battery contacts back in good enough shape to work again.

If not, you'll need to take a small piece of sandpaper and get them shiney again.

you are able to probable get a sparkling one for around ten money, yet to restoration it attempt and sparkling it up. i might use an alchohol wipe or something heavy accountability. See in case you are able to close the leakage with the aid of using glue or sealer. Then test it out for a jiffy to work out if it leaks lower back. If it does not, this is stable. If it does, attempt lower back or get a sparkling battery. only for safety however i might placed on gloves on an identical time as handeling the battery acid.

Bicarbonate of soda will remove the acid, but then you need to scrape the corrosion off the contacts, to get back to shiny metal.
