I was just reading an article on Wikipedia titled "Demographics of Atheism" and came across this fact:

"Interestingly, several state constitutions make the protection of persons from religious discrimination conditional on their acknowledgment of the existence of a deity. These state constitutional clauses have not been tested. Additionally, some state constitutions (namely, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and North Carolina ) forbid atheists from holding public office..."

What action can I take to become proactive in fighting against this law?

Where can I find groups that are already proactively fighting against this law?

Contact the ACLU? There should be a local branch of it.

You can challenge the law, but it may not be necessary. It may not be required and should not be requiored that anyone state a religion to run for office. This is probably why no one has ever challenegd the law. If it isn't enforced, it isn't much of a law. To really challenge such a law, one would have to run for office, decare oneself to be an atheist, win the election, and be barred from taking office for being an atheist.

The majority of the people in your state believe in God. If you don't, they really don't care.
