Dear Gillian,
I'm completely against the death penalty for the following reasons :
- No human being has the right to take the life of another human being (no matter how pitiful that human being may be).
- It ultimately costs the tax payer more money to execute someone (with judicial hearings, ...) than it does to keep them in prison and even rehabilitate them.
- It has been proven not to be effective. US States with the death penalty do NOT have less violent crimes.
- DNA tests are now proving some deathrow inmates innocent. (Can you imagine being wrongly accused of murder and worse (!) being executed for it ...?!!)
- A (fair) legal defense costs money and therefore few deathrow inmates have access to a (fair) legal defense !
- In the US, 60 % of deathrow inmates are Black or Latino when they're not responsible for 60% of violent crimes.
- Death (execution!) by the electric chair, injection or hanging are barbaric acts !

NO, no, no, no, no, no, no. The death penalty should def. be not brought back as mistakes are fatal and irreversible. Some crimes DO warrant the death penalty but i think that losing innocent people because of mistakes in the system is more of a loss. Can you ever be 100% sure that the man/ woman your killing is the culprit?
P.s. sometimes you can...

No. No! No!!
We have it in the U.S. and it's a train wreck. People on death row for years getting released because DNA evidence is proving them innocent. Makes us wonder how many innocent people we've killed over the years.
Give them life at hard labor or solitary confinement, but if you can't 100% certain of guilt (and no can be), don't go down that road. Really, do yourself that favor.

I dont think so. My reasoning is that some people on death row are later proven innocent and if he /she were put to death ,we cant very well bring them back to life and set them free, however if they are serving a life sentence ,then they can be set free. Get It?
