If you're serious about writing, the following are a couple of books I've bought that have helped me with plot. As you've probably heard, stories are retellings of the same plots, just with different characters and motivations. I've found the following books have helped me. Of course, you could develop a character or two first by doing a character profile.

(I'll list a few books to help you make your characters real and more believable)

Once you've developed some real, 3-D characters, you can throw them into different situations to see how they react and how they grow. That's the basics. If your character is a shy, insecure girl who has never really stood up for herself, throw her into a situation that will make her have to and see what happens. Something like that. Get it?

You have character vs plot driven stories. In character driven, the character is the one creating the story by what he chooses to do, not do and the adventures he decides to embark on. Think Hildago or something. In plot-driven, characters have to deal with what's happening TO them. Think Independence Day or Jurassic Park.

I'm rambling..

Anyways, here's a good list of resources for you. Good luck:

The best formula to use when writing a story/book is to have a setting, problem, solution, another problem or conflict, solution and then a conclusion incorporating all the scenarios highlighted in the plot. This way you don't have readers asking at the end of the book what happened to this that or the other unless you are planning a series or a mystery novel as such. However no matter how many courses or seminars you attend telling you what the rights and wrongs are of storytelling it is ultimately up to you the writer because only you know how to tell the story you want to tell the best! As for having all your ideas floating around the best thing to do is keep a notebook with the ideas as they come to you and even a tape recorder next to your bed in case a really brilliant idea comes to you. Good luck with your book, they really are a wonderful thing to have and look back on with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
