because childcare is traditionally a woman's job and females are supposedly the more nurturing sex. it's bull sh*t though, lots of straight guys babysit.

Man.. I work in Child Care and I'm straight as an arrow. (I'm a Child Care Health Coordinator)... and going to be 100% honest with you here... if you work as a babysitter... you should stop.. never take a job in childcare as a man unless you have a witness or a video camera on you at all times... all it takes is one accusation.. just one... and no matter how much evidence is there to prove you innocent and how little there is to convict you.. a jury will find you guilty and your life will be over... I'm not usually a cynical person... but I've seen it happen first hand to a friend.

I know what you mean and the whole concept is ridicules. Some men have the patience and capacity to be very good with children.
