For example I don't wear miniskirts and I like longer skirts and dresses because I feel comfy in them and they are more easy to move around and sit in more naturally you know?

My bf says that I dress modest. And older friends say that I'm sweet.

Dress the way you want to dress and don't worry about the signal. As long as you are comfortable in the clothing, other people's opinions don't really matter. People have used the line that clothing gives off signals and impressions for years, generally to the determent of society. Flappers were thought to be loose women because their skirts were so short. Some may have been, but I'm equally sure that some were not. You have heard the excuse in rape cases that women were asking for it by the way they were dressed. The terms "school marm" and "dowdy" are used to reference the way teachers and librarians dress for work. Some of the teachers and librarians I know are the craziest, kinkiest women I know. What you wear isn't nearly as important as who you are inside.

I am from the old school and I believe the way you dress does send out signals,to many people for different reasons.
When I interview someone for a job, When they walk in the door, the way they look/ dress is the first impression I get before they open their mouths to answer question in an interview. When my daughter brings a boy home for us to meet, that 1st impression is important. It gives signals not only for sexual reasons but for many other reasons !

I also dress pretty modestly (no short skirts or shorts or tank tops) because I find it more comfortable. In the past, I've had quite a few people assume that I'm really conservative (socially) or religious (in a conservative fashion) even though I'm not and that's not why I dress this way...

I suppose it says you value yourself. You can still look pretty and dress modestly. I don't think there is harm in showing some skin every once in a while though. This is unless of course you're doing it for religious reasons. It's a personal preference.

I usually dress modestly because I don't like attention, from either men or women, for how I look. I prefer to be valued for how intelligent I am or sarcastic. Frankly, I've never known how to deal with being considered attractive by others.

Some guys think dressing modestly is sexy, because it leaves more to the imagination. On the other side of the pond, dressing modestly is simply a personal preference. My style is comfortable and sexy at the same time.

Yeah long frumpy skirts are the way to go. They keep you warm on those long buggy rides to town and help to hide the horse crap encrusted boots you have to wear beneath them. Unless you live in a rural section of Pennsylvania or Maryland, the Amish look went out a dozen decades or so ago. "Your sweet" is code for "dumpy homely chick" this can be solved by a few hours at a saloon, wearing shorter skirts, less panties, if any at all, showing cleavage, waxing the mustache and uni brow, shaving everything from the armpits down, and spending a few minutes a week in a tanning booth.

the only thing worse than turning heads because you look hot is turning none because you have nothing worth looking at twice.

The school band called and wants you back in the 2nd clarinet chair.......

it sends whatever signal you want it to send. women shouldn't "have" to dress sexy, but they certainly shouldn't "have" to dress modest, either. The days when rules like that existed are dead, thank God. Now we can dress whatever way we want, signals be damned. I don't much care what others make of me as long as I feel comfortable in my own skin.

Personally, I find long skirts difficult to sit in. I keep rolling over the hem with my desk chair. So I only wear skirts above the knee.

But dressing “modestly” may be indicative of hiding your body because you don’t want anyone looking at it. Only you can answer that question.

Is your older friend who says you’re sweet a single man? He might be pulling the “agreeing with you just to get laid” trick.

I don't get any special signal whether a woman dresses "modest" or "sexy"...I just consider it her style and what she feel comfortable with.

New times, new ways---can't use stereotypes and read into "signals"
