Hey all, what's up? I'm 5 months pregnant and on the anti-emetic Zophran (if I get off it, I get dehydrated becuase I literally can't keep anything - water, ice, pedialite, anything down - the doctor put me on it right away when I found out I was pregnant because with my last pregnancy, I was sick the whole 9 months and ended up in the hospital every third week from dehydration, and no other anti-emetic works). Anyways, I am really constipated and have tried Metamucil, Citrucel, Magnesium Citrate (I throw all of those up) and stool softeners don't work either. Any other suggestions?

I should add that fiber and whole grain and bran products don't work either because I can't keep them down....

I was also on Zofran and had hyperemesis. The only thing that worked was taking Colace every single day...did you try that one already? Citrucel practically impacted me since you need to drink a lot of water to bulk up your stool. And all my fluids that I could keep down was going to the baby. Then I had to take Milk of Magnesium as a laxative. Other things...try to drink as much water as possible, eat high fiber foods, walk around (go to the mall if you are feeling well). After the baby, I am back to normal YEAH!

There are also prenatal vitamins with a stool softener added in. I would give your doctor a call and see if that is an option for you. If you aren't able to keep pills down and are really getting stopped up I would ask about a suppository to help you go, not fun but it works.

I know a handful of easy natural laxatives but I don't know how easy they'll be on your stomach. If you can do it canned pumpkin is one of the best, mix it with a little whipped cream to sweeten it at least it won't be the most horrid if you can't handle it. I don't know if any others will be easier to handle, sorry. My mom was the same way with me and my brother, it's not easy (she hates me by the way for not getting sick). I don't think she ever found a way around it. Best of luck, I hope it gets better for you.

You really should be asking your doctor. I know that nausea is worst at the first trimester but not that far into pregnancy. I used to love salads and fruits. Eat small portions thoughtout the day. Avoid greasy food.

I know you said that stool softners don't work but have you tried prescription ones? This is what my doc had to do for me because I ended up with a hemorrhoid because of the constipation.

Lots of fruit and veggies. Anything you can keep down that has plenty of fiber. Fiber should be your best freind.

My sister took a teaspoon of flax seeds every day while she was pregnant. She said it was the only thing that worked for her.
