He's likely going to go to whoever offers the highest contract, as A-Rod's agent is Scott Boras. I don't think NY would re-sign him if (and when) he opts out, because it will end up costing them about 12 million more per season just to hold onto him. Look for Alex to be courted by the Angels, Cubs, Red Sox, and possibly the Giants.

First of all, the Yankees won't re-sign him at the end of the year because he isn't a free agent, he has the option to opt out of his contract. This means one of two things will happen, he stays with the Yankees, probably signs an extension or he becomes a free agent where the Yankees have said they wont get in a bidding war for him.
That being said I think he should stay, he is finally comfortable playing in NY, is having a career year which is saying a lot because he always has put up ridiculous numbers, and NY is the only place where he can become a legendary player. By staying he can kinda say he is playing to win more than playing for money, only sort of though because he is still the highest paid player. But NY will always have the best chance to win.
IF and that's a big IF, Arod opts out they won't be horrible next year. Abreu and his salary will be gone, Clemen's huge salary is gone, and the Yankees rotation will look like this: Wang, Pettite, Hughes, Chamberlain, Mussina/Kennedy. There are also moves that can be made, already rumors have begun about moving Johnny Damon for a Right Fielder and perhaps some pitching for Miguel Cabrera. With 2 pitchers coming back from injuries in the bullpen, the Yankees will be there to compete yet AGAIN!!!

I hope he goes to the National League honestly.
I have read that he really likes San Francisco, and the Giants are probably gonna go after him after making the announcement that Barry wasn't going to be back.
I bet the whole Cubs deal was a total ploy started by Boras.
Alex Rodriguez is not known for being a loyal player.

I hate to say this but too many times Yankee fans are fickle. Last year they hated A-Rod and even called him names although he has proven to be an outstanding player and on his way to the Hall of Fame. Don't get me wrong as Yankees are loyal to their teams and should be but need to be more supportive of the players on their team. As a Braves fan win or lose, I root for them and for the players as well. I can't speak for Yankee fans but if we had a guy like that, I would want to keep him as they have the largest payroll.

There are two very important reasons why A-Rod will return to New York. One: No one else can afford him. Two: And this is more important than anything else. A-Rod has something that he has to prove to himself. He must win a championship and it has to be in New York. He has to prove to himself that he is big enough and good enough to deal with the pressures of the "Big Apple". The Yankees have a good chance to win it this year but if they don't they will beef up their pitching staff during the off season and surly win it next season.

The mighty New york yankees will part with A rod after this season . He has enough of new yorks money to become player & part owner of the Chicago cubs . If the yankees win this year he might stay . If they lose , he's history .

I have been a Yankee fan for many years, but switched allegiance when the treated Roger Maris like crap and traded him away like he was nothing. Roger was the catalyst to many of the Yankee pennants and they booed him when he got hurt and still played. Now my favorite is A-Rod and the fickle Yankee fans boo him when he doesn't perform like Superman every at bat. Bottom line is that the Yankees and New York fans don't deserve him. I hope he opts out and goes to the Cubs who have great fans or, more ironic, to the Red Sox so he can be better appreciated.

1. They won't be horrible w/ out him.
2. Let him go. If he doesn't want to stay, to heck w/ him. With the amount that he wants, the Yanks can sign 2 All-Stars like Torii Hunter & Santana.

I believe most every Yankee fan would like to see A-Rod stay with the Yankees while most other fans would like to see A-Rod on their team. And why not? he is the best player in the game.
