If the router is only B as indicated by the box, if the box says it is G...then you have most likely turned off the G in the settings.

You can not upgrade it to G if it ONLY supports B, you need to buy a new router.

When routers first appeared, they were all "B" router. Short for 802.11B, the protocol (or language) that they speak. That was updated to 802.11G about three years ago. But the "B" router continued to be sold for another year after that.

Unfortunately, the hardware inside a "B" and a "G" router are very different, so you can not just "update" the B to G. You have to replace it with a new router.

However the newer standard (802.11N) is just beginning to appear on the market. It runs about ten times as fast as 802.11G. So if you decide to replace your current router, look for an "N" rather then a "G" router.

Probably because you bought a B router. You can get a router that is both B AND G at an electronics store. They are slightly more expensive but worth it.

You probably just need to go into the router settings and change it to "G" or "Mixed" In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 and then the log in info. Check the settings for changes to make.
