My boss treated the other girl and I like piece's of ****. I decided to take the professional route, and the process most companies suggest in their manual's (although this private company didn't have any), and call for a meeting. I asked both of the companies owner's to attend, and I said that one of them made me uncomfortable with the way he treated the other girl and I. He says deal with it. Next morning I am fired.
I am not one to run to revenge but I can't just let something like this happen without atleast trying to do something about it. It was a really great job and I was super happy there, except when Keith Schenk was around. I think he's sexist cause he talked to the other girl and I like we were ****, often laughing at us. My boyfriend says the unemployment office offers a way to file for harassment. Does it and should I do it? Are there any other suggestions on how to handle this? Please only answer if you have helpful info. Thanks.

YES - you can file for unemployment and make the company pay. Also, ask them at the unemployment office where you can file a complaint because you were fired as retaliation for a harassment claim. The EEOC may be able to help you too.

Technically, you can sue him. Retaliation is completely illegal. You may even fall under a "Whistle blower" law that protects people who file complaints against people they work with for misconduct.

Good luck to you!

That is known as SEXUAL HARASSEMENT. Sexual harassment does not necessarily mean that it has to do with sex. Keith is male and you are a female. He is treating you wrong because of your sex. One thing you can do is make sure you write down all the incidents that transpired between you and the workplace. Make sure to add dates and if possible times for good recollection. You can consult with an attorney because of the sexual harassment and possibly for unlawful termination. The suit will name Keith's boss as well because by law when a report of harassment is made they need to act accordingly to fix the situation. I would also file an information report with your local law enforcement agency just to have the incident officially documented. Also keep in mind that that other girl will be a key witness in your suit and she would have to testify as well.

I am an idealist and I believe that people like Keith need to be though a lesson because otherwise they will continue to victimize innocent individuals like yourself.

Unfortunately, you need to see a lawyer if you really want to pursue this. The attorney can do many things in an attempt to remedy this.

The lawyer can ask for your job back in exchange for not filing a sexual harrassment lawsuit. Or you can simply ask for damages. Or you can file a federal complaint.

One hour with an attorney will answer any questions you may have about these types of cases. He or she can direct you as to what your chances of recovery may be.

One word of advice..... you may find that female attorneys tend to be more sympathetic (and more effective), and more persistent in these types of complaints.

If you were a person who went around saying there is no more racism nad people need to just suck it up and move on blah blah blah... then you just got a lesson in Karma and now you see what it's like to be the victim of real discrimination.

If you are not one of those peope then fight it through your unemployment office. Don't let them get away this chit.

The law states that if you feel you have been harassed, a formal investigation needs to be conducted and you cannot be terminated as a result of it. My recommendation to you is to contact a lawyer.
