Define freedom.... oh, don't bother.

Listen, we have never in the history of our nation "spread" freedom. That is a myth. Democracy is a great thing and we would wish that other nations were democratic in principle ... but we also have made many alliances to nations that are despotic and oppressive in nature to their own people. I am not passing judgement, I am just presenting a fact. The point is that we can make profitable friendships with despots... we conduct diplomacy to strengthen our security and hopefully enrich our treasury... we don't conduct diplomacy to be noble and to be missionaries... we conduct diplomacy to enrich our wealth and security. There is nothing wrong with that.

Never in the history of this nation have we invaded a nation to spread democracy... we have invaded to protect our security.
We conduct diplomacy with Saudi Arabia, China, Indonesia, etc... these are not "free" nations by our definition... yet we don't interfere with their policies and we don't invade them and we should not. That is why we did NOT invade Iraq to democratize them... that was just a byproduct, an incidental experiment which is not really working... but the invasion of Iraq was waged for many other reasons; democratizing Iraq was way down the list.

Freedom is never free
Freedom can never be given, only earned

If you want to provide freedom that should include the freedom to have whatever society a people wants be it monarchy, democracy, socialist, etc..as long as it does not interfere with you and yours. To try to enforce YOUR ideas on others is a betrayal of freedom

"freedom" is different for every person. Some would argue that Americans are not free at all, because they are completely defined (and often trapped by) their financial status.
