A politician is a politician, whatever the color.
If it calms down some of the brain damage of the past, that would be cool though.

Because of the way you have stated the question, I have to rebutt - there have been other nations that have had black presidents, so the United States will not have the "first black president ever in history". As for the US having its first black president, we have more than a year to elections and a lot can happen in that time.

I would hope that even better would be for the first time to have the courage to elect a woman of any color; in over 220 years this is the only industrialized nation among so called "civilized countries" that has not had a woman leader. And look at the mess that all those men have gotten us into.
My picks for President would be Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D. Tex) or Senator Hillary Clinton (D. NY) between them they have more real experience and constitutional knowledge than all the other candidates put together.
I don't think race should enter into any decision; although Oprah is endorsing Obama because he is black. and Shame on her for misusing her so-called Power in such a meaningless way. Is that reason enough to put a person into the most powerful political position in the entire world? I don't think so.

I'd first off be extremely surprised that less than a century after blacks were given the right to vote, the majority of the American populace said they would be okay with having a black president. But all in all, I don't think it would be that big of a deal to me. He'd still have to deal with the same problems every other president has ever dealt with (with the added on pressure of cleaning up after Bush).
Just like if we elected a woman:
"So you're president now. Do something!"

I am white and I say yes it would be a good thing, IF the candidate was a good one. I served in the United States Navy and had a good long career. During my service I served with and under many of the nations greatest people. They were not always Anglo white Saxon types. Many were of other races, almost every different religion, some were women, and every age group. (Yes some of my leaders were younger then my son). That is part of what makes our country so great.

I don't care about the race or gender as long as they really believe in the policies they talk about. All too often I hear people say, "We need a black president or a woman president." They always give the same answer that follows it too. "Because we need a female or black in office."
They could care less for their policies, they just want them there based on race or gender.
I have a female friend who is a mechanic. I like her not for her gender, but because when it comes to automotive she really knows what she's doing and doesn't talk down to others to make them feel stupid. She's honest and doesn't try to rip others off.

First of all, many other countries have had black presidents in the past, Mandela comes to mind, so we certainly wouldn't be the first. Second, give me all the thumbs down you want, but this country is years away from being open minded enough to elect a black man, or a white woman for that matter, President.

Its about qualifications. I would be all for it but dont see it happening any time soon. I think there is a real chance of the first woman President in the upcoming election.

I'm fine with it, but the reality is I don't think the rest of the country is really ready yet for a black or female president either I'm ashamed to say.

Why are so many people hung up on the first black, the first woman, the first this the first that, who really cares? How come society preaches there is no difference between race and sex but yet they always tell us the first one that does something? I am very confused.
To answer your question, I do not care as long as they share the same values I do.
