I have some opaque glass that is about 1/4 inch thick. I want to make a clean cut at right angles to the length of the glass. I've used glass cutters to make stained glass items and to cut window glass, but have never tried to cut glass this thick. Is there a different method for glass of this thickness? Also, it has a pattern of some type on one side of it.

For a precices cut at that thickness you'll want a water lubricated slow speed saw. These are commonly used for large pieces of thick glass. The purpose of the slow speed saw is to slowly section the glass without introducing enough surface energy to propogate a crack. This leaves very crisp edges without defects like mirror and mist hackle.

make your mark with a glass cutter and use glass pliers to get the piece. You can attempt first to knock the unscored side to see if you get a run, the pliers will be better.
