Yes it is well equipped, but not a true laptop. Depends on the price and condition.

IMHO I think that a XPS is way too powerful for a first computer.

Those laptops are really powerfuls and if you don't plan to play recent games on your laptop then I'd go with a cheaper one that will be as satisfying to you.

May i suggest the Inspiron 1501 that is a good bang for the buck and also the new colorful Inspiron 1520

I have a long experience on ebay (53 items bought there) and I also agree with the precedent message. I'd buy directly from dell for the waranty. Except if it is less than 50% on ebay. Then you can buy a second one if the first one fails and still save money... not very ecological though

C|net gave it mixed reviews, and it's no longer available from Dell. I wouldn't suggest a used laptop to anyone, much less a beginner.

The good: Sleek, attention-getting design; high-quality, adjustable 20-inch LCD; speakers offer crisp, rich audio; detachable Bluetooth keyboard and Media Center remote will work well from the couch or during a presentation; top-of-the-line components deliver high overall performance and competent gaming capability.

The bad: Absurdly expensive; TV tuner and some other A/V connections aren't built in; too heavy to be truly portable.

The bottom line: A striking feat of engineering that's sure to garner attention in a stylish home or on a multimedia-intensive sales call, the Dell XPS M2010 is simply too expensive and impractical to be anything more than a curio for the rest of us.

You haven't said how much is this Dell. Normally Dell is rather reasonably priced compared to other makes because they have cut out the middle man in the high street.
Personally I am very sceptical about buying at e-bay. Firstly it impresses me like an up-market car boot sale. People will flog you anything that they don't want. Secondly, how do you safe guard yourself that you haven't got a "rubbish" after you have parted with your money?
Since it's your first computer, I guess it's worth a gamble to get you onto this electronic super highway and invest on something better afterwards.

Looks good, those Dell's have niiice screens too,

Get the extended warranty though in case it becomes toast after 18 months and you're stuck with an uneconomical to repair piece of junk.

I would call this a luggable(remember the early Amstrad 'laptop') rather than a laptop, but it does look interesting. It really depends what you feel you need. I have never paid more than £500 for a laptop and many users purchase over specified systems.

Good luck on your purchase.

Ok I stay away from Dell because when something goes wrong - only they can fix it - and their prices are high. I shopped around got a laptop at bet buy and when it is not working i call geek squad. fast easy inexpensive

I'm sorry but I am a little gun shy of electronics and e bay.
You really don't have a recourse.

find a review of the frame rate of running bioshock on this laptop, then you'll know if its worth it.
