i had a professor write me a recommendation 2 years ago. i still haven't transferred yet, but I will in the future. Is there a time limit for how old a recommendation can be?

Do not ever submit an old recommendation. It will raise questions, and you do not want that to happen.

Simply get in touch with your professor, and ask for an updated letter when the time comes to transfer. Supply him or her with a current resume in order for the revision to reflect your more recent accomplishments, especially if you've taken subsequent classes with this professor.

I would get in contact with your professer and ask. I'm sure you will be able to; but, better to be safe than sorry. Good luck

you could contact him and ask, that's probably what the people reading the recommendation will do.

IT'S ALWAYS BEST TO LEAVE THEM UNDATED. ASK HIM FOR A NEW ONE.
