If I were to define roles for myself, I'd say

a) A partner to my man.
b) A mother to my children.
c) An employee to my employer.

My kids are 18 and 14, the ones living at home (I have a 20 year old daughter in college in another state.)

His are 18 (going to college, working, living on her own), and 15, and 13. The 13 year old, his son, is with us 4 days a week on average.

In the 5 years we've known each other we've never had a serious arguement or fight.

I work 8 to 4, 5 days a week.

He works 4 days on 3 days off, 3 days on 4 days off. He works a lot of hours in very short time frame. He works every weekend.

My man and I have a pretty tight relationship. We support the household together and generally make sure all the kids are covered should they need anything.

I do groceries and laundry on the weekends, and general housekeeping. Meals, of course.

He does laundry and some meals on his days off, and some housekeeping if it's required.

There are a million variations to the roles of women here in the States. I chose to be wife and mother. I chose to work, have to actually, and I like it.

All a little girl has to do is dream, and know herself, and be willing to do what it takes to have that dream, and she can be anything she wants.

God bless America.

Women can choose what they want to do in the U.S. There is no "role" they have to fulfill. They can stay at home and raise the children, they can be the bread winners while the husband stays home, they can work while a professional raises the children or they can choose not to have children. The point is that we have the power to choose.

Women have many roles as do men. Other than having children which is a unique ability that women have and men don't, they can fill any role they wish to fill and do whatever they want.

Bread winners, moms, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, wives, house keepers, doctors, lawyers, etc. Pretty much what ever we want to be. We can vote, too! Isn't that cool??!?!?

Anything she wants, and works for, it to be.

I'm encouraging my daughter to settle on engineering, but support whatever she choses.
