I think the world would be a very sad place without both men and women. I don't believe there is one particular prototype--the more variety, the better. We all have something unique to bring to the table; we all have our own strengths and weaknesses, interests and desires; we're all important in our own ways and we should all be who we are no matter what other people or societal messages tell us. So yes, whether they admit it or not, I'm sure all women believe that men are important, interesting, mysterious, wonderful creatures that we may not ever understand, but that we enjoy trying to figure out. Every individual has value and the sex of that individual is irrelevant, ultimately. We're different for a reason, and it is our differences that make the world more interesting. In my opinion, anyway.

It is my belief that (heterosexual) women are happiest and most successful in their lives when they are in a relationship with a man who respects her and the two of them work together to build a life. For each woman, the definition or type of man will be different.

As far as defining ourselves by the men in our lives....I think that is the case with many women, but time and time again we learn that this is a very unhealthy situation.

By the way, I believe all the aforementioned is true, also, for men...

I'm a bit tired here, yet I believe I can give an honest answer.
Yes. I am a woman who not only needed a man she also wanted a man, so I got myself hitched. As for the self-defining part I accepted that from my husband and as he was self defining himself, I at the same time was self defining myself, you could say I leeched a bit off of him. that's what happens when your nuture.,

Women need men and other women as well.
If we didn't need men, our species would have been extinct long ago, therefore in our nature is the instinct for companionship of both men and other women.

There have been studies demonstrating that the biology of lesbian women and homosexual men show anatomical differences to that of heterosexual men and women, yet even so, many lesbian couples need sperm donation to procreate and have a family of their own, therefore, men are essential for our existence, as are women.

Now, there is a difference between that part of human nature and being a needy individual, who believes a companion will somehow provide him/her with self-worth...that's another matter, which belongs in the psychology section. ;-)

Yes women around the world are and will always do so. The major percentage want to be traditional.

Ofcourse women who are the secret behind their men and hence their success will encourage them to self define themselves. Always.

I need the specific man I have in my life, but he doesn’t fit any “prototypes”. What do you mean by men self-defining themselves?

I think anyone who needs anyone is pathetic. This includes women who feel they must have a boyfriend at all times or a man around to take care of all the man stuff as much as it includes men who rely solely upon women to make their food and care for their house.

Women only need men to reproduce. Now do we enjoy having them around and spending time with them sure. The same goes for men. They only need women for the same thing.
