Because I believe that to be one of the Inalienable Human Rights referred to in our Declaration of Independance. I honestly believe the world would be a better place, if everyone could speak their minds without fear of death. If we want people to adopt our values, we should extend them during visits.

You're asking a more complicated question than you know. Does it mean we should march to war and force every country to provide free speech? Should we deny rights to immigrants and visitors while we expect them to obey our laws? Should the citizens of USA become equal with non-citizens?

Basically I am a huge believer in true free speech (unlike the majority of America which thinks there should be free speech as long as you say what they want) because I can ignore, argue with, or mock anything I do not like.

However, I do not think we should try to force other countries to provide that right as we do, because we would be impinging on their freedom to run their country as they see fit.

I do not think immigrants and visitors should have equality to citizens in the area of US rights because they are not voting, registered citizens who accept responsibility for this country.

I think immigrants and visitors should have free speech, within reason like the rest of us. However, I think there can be some restrictions as they are not a citizen...not be keeping them from speaking but we should have right to not provide a pulpit to let them make it a public issue.

As such I am against the President of Iran speaking at Ground Zero of the WTC site. Mostly because we could not make sure he would be safe at that location..too many people would get emotional and probably attack....just like We don't let President Bush make public speeches from Mecca. Also because he wanted to make a public event of it by speaking about our actions that caused 9/11...and that would have been insulting.

I may say you have right to say whatever you want to me...but I don't have to listen..and you have no right to say I MUST provide you access into my living room to insult me

I believe that everyone should be able to speak freely. It is more of a birthright than an issue of any citizenship within any government structure.

If you deny people the right to speak freely then you are guilty of the anger that they build up later. So when they explode, don't tell me that you didn't see that coming.

Anyone with common sense knows what the results of denying a person the right to their own thoughts and the right to express them will cause which is anguish instead of peace.

Freedom of speech relates only to the gvmt. The gvmt should not hinder peoples ability to share ideas.

However once you step on to my property, you are subject to my rules. You say things that I find offensive, you're out the door.

Within the US, only US citizens enjoy freedom of speech. We are not required to grant that right to anyone else, although we often do.

Because we are American and have rights like: Our government can't torture us. Our government can't spy on us. Our government can't incarcerate us without just cause. Our government can't tell us what religion to believe in. Our government can't tell us who we can love or control the consensual activities of our bedrooms.

Our government is for the People, by the People and of the People.

If you take this to an extreme and you limit verbal speech in any situation then what happens( given there is a problem), you come upon pent up anger. That being said maybe you should come up with ways to in force how they speech is presented and to whom it is being said.

Only US citizens are governened by the constitution...we cannot extend the protections of the constitution to those not governed by it...it's not a belief or an opinion, it is a fact.
