In many cases it's a matter of giving up control. Mothers especially do not want to cut the umbilical cord with their sons or daughters, because they see their offspring as not being adults but rather still child like. The "Mother knows best"t syndrome takes over. Lots of times Mothers are disappointed in the choice that their children made in a mate. Last but not least is the rivalry "Mothers in Law" have with his Mother or her Mother as to who knows what's best for "my son or daughter". It gets worse when the grandchildren arrive.!!!!!

I think it really depends on the relationship that the son and his mother has before anyone else is in the relationship and how a wife changes that relationship. I think in some cases a mother can feel like she is shoved aside. In my case, I think our marriage brought us all very close. I am the mother to her grandchildren. We all get along wonderfully. I think it also helps that my mother-in-law is someone I would get along with and want to have as a friend anyway. We have a lot in common, a similar sense of humor, and have similar interests.

I have heard, on good authority, that there is a hormonal change that takes place in a mother at the wedding, ( I
think its a combination of the release of emotions, flower pollen & Alcohol) that turns her into a Daughter in Law Eye Eater.
That's why they can see eye-to-eye ......the eyes are in the mom's gullet.

From my own sistuation, the mother in law feels threatened that her son no longer looks at her as his #1 leading lady. He now looks to his wife for advice, and comfort during times of stress/happiness. He's moved on with a life that's not so surrounded by her, but with a family of his own. Getting them to see eye to eye: I just overlooked all of her snoody comments, spoke to her a much as possible attempting to become "buddies" so that she's reassured that I'm not trying to take her son/baby away from her, and kept smiling no matter what the circumstances.

Because the daughter in law is having sex with the mother in laws 'little boy'. That is the reason they do not get along.

A Wife is taking a Mothers Little Boy away from her, the Mother resents the Wife for that, and in turn the Wife probably feels jealous that Hubby wants to spend time with Mommy..
Oh Geez - it's a horrible cycle.

They both want t be #1 in the poor guys life. No room in a mansion when both are present. The guy outta go hide. His mother can't stand the thought of another female swooning over her son. His wife can't stand his mother swooning over her son.
Guys just blow that off. For some reason women kill to be the center of attention.

My son has a legal wife and a play wife. He thinks that just because for the past 5 yrs. (as well as his legal wife) neither want to take care of the proper thing and get divorced both have gone on and got playhusbands and playwives and both have more children and neither bothers to get a divorce. I dont' get along with the wife or the playwife and people wonder why. Everytime the wife has a problem she wants to call me about my son I'm sick of it and told none of them to call me. I shouldn't have to deal with all that crap.
