There is plenty of gas in the car. Today, it actually shut off. What would be the problem? Cost?

Clogged fuel filter is the most likely reason.

Clogged fuel filter is the most likely problem. After you replace it then put a bottle of injector cleaner in your tank to clean them out as that could cause some symptoms.

Idle speed, fuel filter, "Carburetor?" needs rebuild, plugs and/or wires.
