Your best bet is to get to a doctor and see what is recommended. My sister had a similar problem and didn't want to talk to my mom about it, so she went to a free clinic and got put on birth control pills which helped with the heavy bleeding and regulated her. As far as the cramps, either get some aleve or midol maximum strength!

Heavy periods...buy the size large tampons.

Bad PMS: "Poor nutrition with resulting deficiencies of several key nutrients affect factors which control inflammation, fluid balance and even mood. Although the causes of PMS are numerous and not completely understood, it is still possible to give some natural approaches that can benefit all women.General dietary guidelines include the complete elimination of all "junk" food, as well as all stimulants (coffee, tea, alcohol, chocolate and refined sugar). The diet should contain adequate animal protein, plenty of healthy animal fats, complex carbohydrates and a variety of fresh vegetables. Fresh fruits may be included unless a yeast infection is present. All commercial vegetable oils, both liquid and partially hydrogenated, should be excluded as these interfere with key prostaglandins and the regulation of hormone production. Foods rich in vitamin A, vitamin D, the B complex (especially B6 and pantothenic acid), vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and certain long-chain fatty acids should be stressed as all of these nutrients seem to be key in easing the symptoms of PMS."

I'm sorry and confused as to why you can't talk to your mom about this problem. I had this problem also. I would be in so much pain my feet actually hurt. I would have to stay home from school. My mom took me to the doctor, and they put me on birth control. It helped regualate my period and greatly reduced the cramping.

As a side note, just because you are on birth control does not mean that you should be able to have sex. It is not always effective (if not taken correctly) and does not prevent STDs. OK,...Thats all for my mom/big sister speech.

You might be surprised how much you and your mother have in common here---genetics plays a factor in a lot of things. You won't know unless you talk to her.

But there's no one who can make them lighter and less painful for you except a doctor.

One thing you can do to make cramps a little more bearable is to lie down and get your knees and feet up higher than your pelvis. Either prop them up with lot of pillows, or lie on the floor with your lower legs up on a couch or chair. Most comfortable works best. Stay down until you feel better.

going on the pill will really help reduce your periods, even make them stop in some circumstances. Or if that doesnt appeal to you when you are on your period eat a lot of chocolate and nice suggary drinks. Hot bottles work well, try gentle excerises but dont over do it. Snuggling in bed, relax and watch a good movie.

Why can't you go to your mum?
If you have any sort of a relationship with her, you should be able ask her for help. She's been through the teenage years albeit a long time ago (!) and I'm sure she's be pleased that you feel you could approach her.
I know it's emabarrassing, but remember she's your Mum and has always been there for you.

bless you - it's a shame you can't talk to your mum about this.
Brufen pain killers are the best for period pains - try a hot water bottle on your tummy as well. Eating little & often - 6 meals/snacks a day can also help a bit.
Why don't you go and see your GP - they will be able to help.

I used to have heavy, long, painful periods. Then I switched to cloth pads and Sea Pearl Tampons. Withing 3 months my period were 4-5 days long, w/far less bleeding and almost no pain. Boy was I thankful!

You need to go to the doctors - there are pills that can help with this. Unfortunately you can't buy them over the counter as you need a prescription - although you might just be able to get them from your local family planning clinic.

Good luck - its tough being like that when you are young :(

how old are you.. your mom can help.. or even your dad..some dads can be very open minded when it comes to his little girl being in pain.. If you are 15 or 16 you could go to the health department and be placed on birth control pills or shots. that will help regulate your periods.. as for the cramping for now heating pads will help and exercise, your body is trying to pass some clotting, and it needs some help..
