when you talk about reaction, it is a chemical change. there is no physical reaction (unless you talk about biology) but physical change.

chemical change:
composition of the chemical is no longer the same

physical change:
change of appearence, composition remains the same

Most certainly a chemical reaction. The base explosive is being decomposed to CO, CO2, H2O, NO2, and all sorts of other crap.
