1)theEQ. of the line through (-2,0)with slope of -3/4 is:
y=-3/4(x+2). ANS.
2) any line perpendicular to x-axis is x=a. if it passes through(-2,0), then ,a=-2. the desired Eq. is x=-2. ANS.

Standard form is ax+by+c=0.
1. This is slope-intercept type information, so you take y= mx+b, where m=-3/4, and solve for b when x=-2 and y=0. So you will have an equation of form y= -3/4 x + b. So multiply by 4 and rearrange to 3x+4y-4b=0

2. A line perpendicular to the x-axis has the format x=(x coordinate), or x=-2. In standard form, x+2 =0.

1) use the point-slope form!

(y-0)/(x - -2) = -3/4 or

y/(x+2) = -3/4. This is an equation of the line. In standard, slope-intercept form:

y = (-3/4)*(x+2) OR

Y = (-3/4)x - 2(3/4), note sign change
= (-3/4)x - 3/2. Done.

2) The line through (-2,4) that is perpendicular to the x-axis.

Note this line is PARALLEL to the y-axis, and its equation is, simply, x = -2. Draw the picture to see what I mean.

Use this equation to find out your equation in standard form.

(y-y1)=m(x-x2)

So

your equation will look like this:

(y-0)=3/4(x-(-2))
OR
(y-0)=3/4(x+2)

Now... solve your equation for y

y= 3/4x+(3/4)(2)

y= 3/4x+1.5<<<<<< this is your equation in standard form
