I read it in a school library sometime around 1988. To the best of my memory, the first part is about a girl who is locked in a government fallout shelter with her father, who is restocking the shelter when a nuclear attack occurs. The second part of the book deals with the attempt to rebuild society by the decendents of survivors, who have lost almost all knowledge of technology. I do not think it is either "Strange Tomorrow" by Jean Karl or "Children of the Dust" by Louise Lawrence. Any possible suggestions (or even similarly themed books) would be appreciated. Thanks!

a million. Harry Potter- Eragon (in basic terms sounds like they might) 2. Albus Dumbledore- Gandalf (come on now.. 2 tall, previous, humorous, sensible wizard men) 3. Severus Snape- I have not have been given any theory 4. Samwise Gamgee- Charlie Bucket 5. Hermione Granger- Elizabeth Bennett (sharp, witty, logical, "cuts the crap") or Saphira 6. Sophie Neveu- Sherlock Holmes 7. Dolores Umbridge- no person may well be pals along with her hahaha 8. Lucy Pevensie- Jane Eyre (2 youthful "kindred spirit" varieties) 9. Lord Asriel- in no way examine The Golden Compass

Well, shoot, the two titles you shot down were the two I was going to suggest. Have you actually read those two? I have both of them, if you need me to look up specific passages for comparison with your memory...

If you want other good titles, in addition to the ones mentioned above, I recommend:

"Empty World" by John Christopher
"The Girl Who Owned a City" by O. T. Nelson
"This Time of Darkness" by H. M. Hoover
"Tomorrow, When the War Began" (and sequels) by John Marsden
"Plague" by Jean Ure
"The City Under Ground" by Suzanne Martel
"Journey Outside" by Mary O. Steele
"The Big Empty" by J. B. Stephens
The Fire-Us Trilogy ("The Kindling" is the first one) by Jennifer Armstrong & Nancy Butcher

This is my favorite genre -- I hope you enjoy them!

Are you sure it isn't Children of the Dust? Sounds just like it.
