Why are some people desperate to stay Looking young?

I can't speak for everybody but I have an opinion. I'm 47 going on 48. People say I look younger - that pleases me. Partly because I do make sacrifices to keep myself in shape and the rest is genetics.

I am not desperate to stay young looking but I would like to delay time a little. I have a car and I take care of it to keep it in tip top condition for as long as possible - why shouldn't I do the same with my body.

Understand me I am not going under the knife to preserve my looks or alter them. I am happy with the way I am. That's my opinion - I wan t to age gracefully.

But some people take growing older very badly and I do have to put some of the blame on the media here. If you pay too much attention to it it seems the world revolves round the young - once over 30 it's all downhill which is not fair or true at all.

It not just some people. - there are alot of people out there terrified of looking and growing old. Hence the mid age crisis. Maybe it's also because we associate growing older with death - when you're young you rarely think about it but its when friends your age or family members start to die that you become aware of your own mortality. Looking younger is like keeping death at bay.

I hope I have helped you understand a little. This is a complex issue and you do need a little experience to understand some of the things i have just written.

I wouldn't say I was desperate but I try my best to look the best I can. I don't want to look old and tired if I can help it.
I exercise daily and stay in shape,drink and eat healthy foods and wear clothes that are nice with a young edge to themwithout looking like a teenager. I am 52 years old and am not ready to do the "grandma' look yet.

Some people are desperate because they don't want to be considered old. Some women go to great lengths to stay looking young, such as getting botox, facelifts, lip injections and more. Some women may feel insecure about themselves and go through this not only to please themselves but to take the attention and stares away from their flaws.

Because in society, you must look pretty and young and some people want to be that.
I think it is weird, personally, because if you're old you're old. You had your chance at being young.

Yes and it's usually the sun lovers that are the vain ones, and they just can't get the message that it's the sun that prematurely ages and wrinkles you up like a prune, Well before your time.

Simply because we live in a shallow society where appearance counts for everything.

It has even spread to politics where success now depends on how photogenic you are rather than what you stand for.

You can tell a lot about a society by the way it treats its elders.

Here we hide them away as an embarrasment or an inconvenience, or get them obsess as to why nature took its course and made them old.

Because they can't cope psychologically with the concept of looking old. We all want our youthful looks to remain as many of us fear the prospect of death - the ultimate conclusion of old age.

well we all like to look our best, if not for ourselves, for our partners if you have one, am a guy in my forties and take pride in how I look now that's sensible don`t you think? i don`t go over bord like a lot do no gym or running just general maintenance. that's all.

to feel good about themself.
to looks better than the rest of friends with same age.
