Everyone deserves the right to choose his own death but nobody else should be permitted to make that decision for him. What really distresses me is when the courts decide to terminate your life support or appoint someone else to make that decision.

There isn't anyone on earth I would trust to decide whether I live or die. There isn't anyone I know who wouldn't have something to gain from my death, be it a family member hoping to inherit money, the hospital seeking to free up another bed or the insurance company or government who doesn't want to pay to keep me alive. Nobody but the patient himself should be making that decision.

If somebody wants to die peacefully then i believe they have the right to do so, so long as it does not put other lives in danger.

There is no need to prolong a life whereby the person is suffering and wants it to end. It is of their own free will.

I believe that euthanasia should only happn should the person in question agree to it (if somebody was in a coma i personally wouldnt approve of the decision to 'terminate' them - although i can understand the facilities supporting the life may be needed for more 'hopeful' reasons). So long as the person in question can agree in some form to end their life, it should be allowed.

In some ways I think it should be legalised, especailly for teminally ill, those who are in excess pain, those who have no life and are wired up or doped up the eyeballs with no recovery.

I mean, we put animals down that are healthier than some people we keep alive

However, then you have to consider where the line is between euthanasia and murder?

Good question though

Wow, that's a hard question...

I think that there are times when it's ok. We prolong life so much with modern medicine, if someone is essentially suffering because of this, not benefiting, then we should let them go. BUT this is such a personal issue, and it's a decision that I'm not sure I'd want to make for someone else...

I believe that when I die (however I die) I'm going to a better place. My husband does not believe that, and I know that he would do anything to get any extra moment of life, whatever the circumstances. I hope I never have to make that decision for him...

Read Dylan Thomas and "don't go quietly into that last good night" ................euthanasia is very popular with grown children who haven't the time or the care to look after their failing parents so promote euthanasia as being 'better than death with no dignity'. The lack of dignity comes from the children.

Its a subject that has many more questions than answers. How would you know until your were so ill and in so much pain what you would want. I believe God would want you die a natural way but even Jesus died crucified on the cross. That was not 20 score years and 10. If the quality of life of a person is so poor then ask yourself what would I want?

I dont agree with euthanasia, because of my religious beliefs. Only God has the power to give and take life not humans. Euthanasia can be abused aswell, even with all the laws and procedures in place.

I think it should be legal when certain conditions are met. The patient themselves should make the decision while still in a competent mental state and there is no hope. Having gone thru 2 family members who suffered terribly with no hope of a cure I think they should have the right to die at the time of their choosing.

I would say ask those countless people who have to endure proplonged suffering, without any hope of their health and life quality improving.
We could easily enact a system whereby people can request an enduced departure, which is witnessed by appropritate professionals. In my humble opinion it's their life, and considering the number of people who are killed against their wish, is it not reasonable to keep people from prolonged suffering, i think that's cruel within itself.
However if you retain a religious stance on the subject, i cannot think of many religions that permit us to commit murder...............

I watched my dad die of cancer and saw the pain he was in. If he had been an animal he would have been put to sleep not made to suffer.
You can be prosecuted for letting an animal suffer like that, he was in so much pain I prayed for it to end.
In a situation like that where there is no hope I think you should have the right to choose to end your life and not be forced to suffer. Your loved ones suffer so much too, watching you die bit by bit and knowing they are powerless to stop it.
