My fiance's dad is giving me and my fiance a house that we are moving into in a week. It was my fiance's grandma's house. She had a ton of cats in the house. The pee'd and pooped everywhere in the living room and kitchen floor. I am trying to get the urine as well as the smell out of the house completely. What is the best way to go about that?

Nature's Miracle or Capture are both natural enzymes that break down the acid in animal urine that causes the smell. You will have to get it all the way down into the padding in carpet to fully remove the odor, but you can use it to mop vinyl and ceramic floors straight. You can find Capture at the Lowes home improvement center, it is less expensive than Nature's Miracle which you find at pet stores and major discounters in the pet aisle.

There are several urine enzyme products available at most major pet chains, Walmart, Target, local pet stores etc. I find that Nature's Miracle, Urine Gone work very well. You can also purchase a small black light flashlight which in a darkened room when shined over the carpet will show all the spots that the car peed on. These are the areas that need to be treated. Vinegar and ammonia will do no good at all and most "home" remedies will fail as well. I am sorry for your friends loss and I am sure that his friend does miss him/her. Unless you remove the entire order of urine the cat will continue to go in those spots. One more thought, has your friend had the cat checked for a UTI (urinary tract infection) since this also will cause potty issues. I hope this is of some help to you.

My boyfriend had a very sick cat that used to pee all over the place, so he was always cleaning up the mess. He started by going over the room with a black light to determine exactly where he needed to clean. Cat urine shows up florescent under a black light. Once he determined where he needed to clean, he used Nature's Miracle as a cleaning agent.

Since you have an entire house to clean this may be your best bet rather than replacing every tile and/or carpet area. However, I would advise against bringing another animal into the house until you do replace everything. Animals have a sharper sense of smell and will "mark" their territory if they detect the enzyme found in urine.

I have tried everything under the sun and spent hundreds on professional cleaning...nothing worked except for Urine Gone! Great Stuff! You can get it at Walgreens, Boscovs, ask for help because its hard to find in Walgreens, they always have it it though, might be in the cleaning ailse, pet aisle, its $19.99 for a big bottle. It may be in the As Seen ON TV aisles also. This stuff is awesome. I have 2 cats and a dog. My cat pees out of the box sometimes and I use the Urine Gone ( 2 applications over about 3 days and the smell is gone) let the first application completley air dry and then give another good spray/stream and let air dry. When it is totally dry after the second time NO SMELL at all. But you have to let it air dry, no fans! Good Luck!

honestly in an older house like that you might be best to tear up all the carpets and have them replaced, because over years the pee has sunken deeper than the carpet its in the pad beneath it, there is no way to clean that deep. and who knows, you might get lucky and find some beautiful hardwood floors underneath that just need a little polish.

I was going to say mix some white vinegar and water but sounds like you may need to use just straight vinegar then rinse well. Vinegar neutralizes the odor. You may need to repeat a couple of times but it works!!!:)

Nature's miracle may cut it down a bit - you can get it in most larger pet stores. Shampoo the rugs with it, let them dry, liberally spirnkle rugs with baking soda and leave set then vacuum.

YOU CAN TRY SHAMPOOING THE CARPET. USE AMONIA AND A LITTLE BIT OF BLEACH. OPEN SOME WINDOWS CUZ THE FUMES ARE BAD,BUT IT DOES WORK. IT MAY TAKE ALOT OF SHAMPOOINGS,BUT IT WILL LOOK AND SMELL BETTER. IF NOT THEN GET A NEW CARPTE. LOL
