My fiance's dad is giving me and my fiance a house that we are moving into in a week. It was my fiance's grandma's house. The kitchen sink is horrible. It has old grease and dirt all in the sink. Its gross. How can I clean the sink of the old grease and dirt? What is the best way?

Sop up as much of the goo as you can with paper towels and tie them up in a garbage bag. Use scouring powder to scrub it clean and rinse with very hot water. It wouldn't be a bad idea to toss a box of baking soda down the drain to kill the smell down there and help dislodge any goo that made its way down there.
At least the house is free.

You do not want to allow any more grease and crud to go down the drain than is absolutely necessary. First, get some paper shop towels at Wal-Mart (they are blue). Wipe out as much grease and dirt as possible throwing the expended towels into the trash. When you have gotten down to the sink, you will now be able to clean it. Using Comet powder cleanser (not the liquid stuff), apply a liberal powdering onto the soiled areas, and with the blue towels, scrub the stains, grease, etc. out of the sink. After you have it looking better, fill the sink with hot water, add 2 cups of Clorox bleach (not the dollar store stuff), and allow it to sit full of bleach water (all the way to the top) for at least an hour. Drain the sink and if there are any spots left, you may want to touch up your cleaning again. You can also scrub the cabinets the same way - just wipe the counter tops down with bleach water. Use gloves to protect your hands.

Fill it with hot water and let sit, then drain and scrub with an SOS pad. That will get the grease out.If its a white sink, scrub with blue pad and then rinse well, then spray with bleach. That will disinfect it also.Just rinse well after the bleach sets...
