Do you really think their crimes were humane??
Jail is not usually what you think anyway. They get free room & board, 3 squares a day, & access to library & can learn, learn a trade, watch TV, exercise & have many more humane things around them. With what most of them put their victims through, it is FAR more humane than I would prescribe! Trust me there. Then, there are foreign prisons, see how humane they are! US prisoners get treated like royalty compared to that!

Is it right for them to live in better mental health than that of their victims? Dehumanize? They should suffer 10 fold. People lives are ruined. Here in Tulsa last week, a 5 year old was found wondering the streets miles from her home naked
and sexually abused. Just walking the streets lost and crying. If that was your kid, would you want the prisoner to have cable? I think they castrate him, and then let bubba have his way with him the next 10-20. Dehumanization is payback, and we could be a lot worse. Think what the kid is going through, and how long the effects will last, forever?

Didn't murderers dehumanize their victims? Did a rapist dehumanize the woman he raped? Of course! Prisoners already have it very easy; they have food for free, cable tv, a place to sleep. It is the least we can do to put these people in jail to keep them from harming, or dehumanizing, someone else.

IMHO, the problem with our methods of dealing with criminals is that we are trying to punish criminals. I'm not saying we should coddle or let people get away with victimizing others, but putting some people in prison is an inappropriate way to handle their crime.
As an example: drug users often come out of prison with more connections to crime than they ever had before. Since they're going to have a hard time getting a decent job after leaving prison, they're more likely to turn to drug dealing and organized crime just to survive, and now they have connections to help them do it.
On the other hand, rapists (especially pedophiles) and murderers, for the most part, are usually unable to be rehabilitated into normal life. Locking them up to keep the public safe is the only option. Many of these people should be given mandatory life sentences rather than being allowed to leave after ten years.
What I'm getting at is that our correctional system needs to be geared toward either making criminals fit for society, or keeping them out of society altogether, not toward punishing them. Sometimes prison is the right answer, while other times it is not.

Rapists have already dehumanized themselves. So have many other criminals. Prisoners have rights and they are protected. That does not mean they should not be tightly controlled. If that means they are dehumanized, so be it. It is better than letting them prey on society.

Do criminals dehumanize their victims? Is treating a woman like a possession and using her showing humanity? Should murderers be shown humanity after they have taken away someone's right to live? Any of them that feel they are being treated inhumanely we should give the option of being humanely put to sleep for a permanent dirtnap.

Yes we do, and yes it is wrong.
Our prison system is supposed to serve as a rehabilitation system. Surely we can all agree that prisoners are not rehabilitated after serving their sentence.
We should come to the understanding that criminals of some crimes simply need to be removed from society for the rest of their lives. We should set up facilities to fill this need. Other criminals have legitimate problems which need to be corrected before they are released back into society. We should have separate facilities for these people.
Once we have a system like this set up and functioning properly, we would not need to worry about living next door to or hiring a felon. If a person had been convicted of a crime in the past, we should be able to safely assume that the person actually is rehabilitated if they are now out of jail.

No! putting people in jail is not the same as being dehumanized.
YES! To dehumanize is wrong
They are still human!
With all the human aspects and emotions.. although some may need help to get back in touch with who they really are... remember no one is born a criminal or a rapist.
You must never forget that.. . get them some help at least those that still can be helped.

who cares, prison is not only about rehab, it is about protecting the public, keep those scum off the streets. The reason they are dehumanized is because of the culture THEY form while in prison.

No, it is not wrong to "dehumanize" criminals, especially the ones who "dehumazined" their victims.
