Without me sending it in anywhere? Like, could I just take it to the mac store where I live? How long would I have to leave it in for? How much would it cost for 512 mb? 1gb? more?

I would do it myself but I'm not sure if that would void my apple care for some reason?

For 512 about 45 to 50, plus what ever they may charge to install. It only takes a few minutes to install as long as they have someone there to do it. If you know how to install it yourself try the link below. They have good prices for ram.
