Taping won't work. Me and my friends play street hockey all the time, and what we just do is we buy these cheap wood sticks. And when they wear down (which is like after a week) we replace them. They're just used cheap sticks, my cousin went through at least 10 sticks last year this way. Or you can buy a two-piece stick and just change blades whenever it wears out. You should designate a stick specifically for ice, and not use it on street, ever. And you should just buy a cheap used stick to use on the street. You can't stop the stick from wearing down on street, you just can't. That's why you should have separate sticks for the ice, and on the street.

Damn Chris, stop being so obsessed with "like I'm telling you...". It's getting weird man... lol, jk!

im not exactly sure of a difference, some ice hockey sticks could be used in road hockey. I think people tend not to use their ice hockey stick on the road so that it doesn't get recked. If you had a composite stick you probably wouldn't want to use it on the road, so that it doesn't get recked. You can probably ask someone at a hockey or sports store.

Excellent answer Mike!
The one thing that Mike doesn't mention is that your ice hockey stick should be 2"-3" longer than a road hockey stick. Using the same stick for both ice and road/street hockey will force you to compensate your technique for one or the other, and this could dampen the improvement in your skills.

Some good tips on here, definitely don't use wood. go for a ABS blade, it'll be a little heavier but it won't splinter etc like a wood blade will.

Get a two piece stick, and put a hybrid blade in. I use he easton hybrid x-abs blade, they are pretty much the best blade you can get for outdoor use. And no, do not tape the blade.
