I was just reading a book and there was a line that said " Age dosen't bring wisdom. My grandad said some lose their 'moral compass" as they get older." The person who said that line was a kid adressing a ruthless war lord. He going on about how young people are foolish and when he get's older he'll realize that there is no such thing as right and wrong. Good or evil. It's what you do and don't do. I kind of agree with Bosky. The name of the kid. As people get older they are corrupted by the world. Whether it be sex, money. power ect. So I kind of agree. . .
What do you think?
The name of the is JOHN CONSTANTINE HELLBALZER: SUBTERRANEAN
Good read!

"FROU FROU" I HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING, KIND OF AGREE AT POINTS. BUT DON'T AGREE IN GENERAL. THE WAR LORD WAS KILLING PEOPLE FOR HIS OWN SELF GAIN. HE WAS A NUT! I THINK GOOD AND EVIL, RIGHT AND WRONG EXIST FOR A REASON. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE. . . I THINK. . .

I have a few moral constants that have stayed with me - some of them are arguable, but the one I find that is irrefutable is that cruelty in any form is just flat out wrong.
However, there have been a lot of things that I held to be true as a teenager that I have come to realize are dependent on certain contestable premises. Morals are really relative to what you hold to be true or untrue. So really morality is an opinion. I don't think this fact cheapens it in any way, because the moral opinion someone chooses may very well be truth, but as mere mortals we are not able to ascertain this with any certainty.
So the reason I have sort of lost my moral compass is because morality is relative. That is not to say that I don't adhere to any morals as a result, however, merely that I understand that my "truth" isn't a given.
Some people will disagree, but this is what I believe.

It is somewhat true. If we all did what we taught our kids to do the world would be a very different place. But kids do not have to deal with the same depth that adults have to. It's easy to know right and wrong when the question is whether or not I can hit my brother for teasing me. But when the question becomes more complex like should we go to war to help the oppressed it is another thing entirely.

Right or Wrong. Good or Evil. Conservative or Liberal. These are all artificial constructs that man has placed upon himself. There is no right or wrong, or good or evil. These concepts are almost always defined by a cultural to help keep that culture together. It lets people within that culture know what to expect and what is expected of them.
There are no absolutes in any human culture or civilization. Each culture changes the rules as it evolves. What is considered correct in one era is now thought of as antiquated in another. Changing the rules of the game is not right or wrong. Rather it is how the people in the culture now view themselves with respect to the situation they find themselves facing.

the important thing is said is 'some lost 'it
not all
everyone is different
it all depends on your life, beliefs, experience, state of mind, financial state, state of your current position in life
happy to say age is bringing me wisdom so i have to disagree with that
im much more wise, mature etc now at 29 than i was 10 years ago at 19
and i credit it mostly to life experiences and how other people have affected me, not just myself
what you do and dont do is always going to be affected and dictated to by your life experiences,
mostly and sadly the bad things that happened to you and it can change you from so called 'good' to so called 'bad'
the good things obviously make you feel better and so make you act better
although too much good can taint people too, same as too much bad, thats why theres a balance of good and bad things in life
although i dont agree with the sociological view and description of good and bad
because 'good' people can do bad things as well as 'bad' people can do good things
its just another sociological term and expectation
and society has all too many of those
people are corrupted by things that happen to them and by other people
people can be corrupted at any age, again its life experience and those around you that influence your character
its not so black and white as its about what they do its about what all of us do, not just what you do
you can make a difference, but so can they
that comment, that part of the story, is seen from one perspective, a childs perspective, thats why it sounds almost one sided and simple,
but in life things are not that simple,
there is never one view
if you looked at things from the so called 'ruthless warlords' and the adults perspective, your get some different comments and beliefs and yet some same
thats the balance
but we all do things for our own self gain,
if we didnt no-one else would and we would end up in a heap on the ground with nothing to show for ourselves
being adult means sometimes you do things other people wont agree with, and tha tis the job of an adult, not a child thats why the perspective is flawed
its easy to judge from a child view of who and what you should be and do
but its the adults who usually have to deal with it and clean up teh mess and its not always able to be done in the nice way
killing people although wrong to society he may feel it betters his life, his familys life, his countrys life, or maybe something someone else did tainted him to be the killer he became
its down to all factors
he may be a nut but hes a human being, and human beings are flawed, we are neither good or bad, right or wrong, we just are
and we try to live by our new 'civilised societys' rules
but society has no idea about real right and wrong
its just words
if society took a second to consider real right and wrong
it would realise everything it does, says and believes is wrong and its never been right,
and
infact all society does is judge everyone else on being its version of right and wrong
but thats they sheer hypocrisy of society
and of people

Losing one's "moral compass" is like a sea captain losing his sword over the edge of a fast moving ship and marking the spot of the railing where his sword was dropped into the sea from the ship as the place to find it again.

Wisdom comes from experience; the elderly are merely more likely to have had such experiences to gain that wisdom.
