The travel agency has every right to recover this money ! Staff discounts are exactly that - for STAFF ! It sounds like this 'friend' has been found out - and you've been charged the difference between the price you originally paid - and the full amount. Be careful - from reading the details, both you and your friend have actually committed fraud - in obtaining 'goods or services you were not entitled to' Legally they could sue you for theft ! Write it off to experience - unless you want the company to dig deeper - and take you to court !

IMMEDIATELY contact your CC company and tell them you canceled the contract. Hopefully they can withhold payment. Also consider writing to the president of the timeshare company. If it's a legitimate company, the president's (or CEO) office will look into the matter. Finally, you may have to contact your state's/province's attorney general's office, better business bureau or other department that might assist.

Do as the previous person said, contact your credit card co.
You are going to have one hell of a job getting your money back from time-share.
I know, I tried it for two old ladies who paid £6,000 and two years later tried to re-sell the time share which was refused although they had been told there would be no problem when they paid for it.
In the end, after a lot of threatening letters from me, they refunded £1,500 - still a big rip-off!

Call the Credit Card company and dispute the charge.
Many credit cards have online dispute processes. You log on to your account, click on the transaction and follow the steps to dispute the charge.

Call your Credit card and inform them of what has occurred. They should be able to do something on their end.

Recontact your bank/credit card company and insist that they take action, it should be in their hands, that's why we pay by card!
