I can't say it's really all that much safer. As with any BC there is always the chance of pregancy and there are always side effects. With the pill there's the chance of blood clots and other things. With the IUD there's a tiny chance of perforation of the uterus. I have an IUD with no problems. Sometimes the string can be somewhat uncomfortable during sex, but other than that I don't feel it or have to worry about forgetting it. I do know one girl that got pregnant on it, and fortunatly they were able to safely remove the IUD without effecting the embryo and she's due in a couple months.

IUD had the fewest side effects providing you are in a monogamous relationship (multiple partners increase the possibility of PID and other deep set infection at the implant site). You have the confidence of no pregnancy for between 5and 10 years depending on the device - no pills, creams, devices just go. You can get as "wild" as you normally do - if you feel discomfort, like any other time, simply readajust. Good Luck!

IUD's are very effective BCD's, however, like EVERY female contraceptive there are risks associated with it, not as many as there with Tubal Ligation however. If you're in a long term/marriage situation and your sure that you don't want to procreate, I suggest that your partner get a Vasectomy, which has no long term side effects. If you only want a short term effective BCD, IUD is indeed your best bet. Talk to your Dr. as there can be some unpleasant side effects, like cramping, bleeding between periods and worse.

Safer, or more effective? That's two different things.

And what exactly is wild sex, anyway?
