Songs that have political implications...Perhaps even songs that talk about racial or economic inequality.

Political and social situations have been the impetus for artists for millenia. There are many songs which have political implications. Among my favorite are:

The Who-Won't Get Fooled Again

REO Speedwagon-Golden Country
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwI9aOmYf4M
Bob Dylan-the Times They are A Changin'

John Lennon-Imagine

John Lennon-Give Peace a Chance

Just a few, maybe I will come back when time permits and add to the list.

This is probably not you had in mind, but when I saw your question the first thought that popped in to my head was a SATB choral arrangement by the famous British composer John Rutter, "The Tale of Tom Gilligan." The song is about a farmer from Maine who has a scarecrow that comes to life, can walk and talk, and gets elected to the U.S. Senate. I still remember some of the words: "The scarecrow campaigned all the whole summer long. He didn't say much right but he didn't say much wrong. So when voting day came, well the choice was quite plain. The scarecrow was elected as the Senator from Maine." And the very last stanza of the song goes: "Now this tale has a moral as you plainly can see. If a scarecrow starts talking, well just let him be. Never pay him attention or he'll do you all in. And don't run him for Senator, just in case he should win." I always like the humor of this cute song.
