One should define themselves by more than what they do as a profession, but ideally, you find a job that is an extension of what you value in life. Mostly, work, after a while, becomes a part of the person, regardless of their best attempts to avoid that fate.

Many things that we do are not work at all. Eating , sleeping, talking that we do donot constitute work at all. If so , then , what is work? Work, then , is what we do to achieve an objective in life. In this who we are , in what work we do , is a major factor.

Weelll, it can go both ways.
My job in the medical field is who I am,
but my other job in accounting is just what I do.
I appreciate my job in the medical field so much more because I am very passionate about it - it's me! But working in accounting is just a job that pays the rest of the bills, and it doesn't excite me, so it's not really me.
