The two are not related!

Saddam found Kuwait drilling diagonally. They had used up their own oil and were now 'stealing' oil from Iraq. Saddam went through the proper channels. He filed a grievance with the UN, he even asked the US for help, but nobody wanted to help him. Finally he asked the US ambassador, April Glaspie, if the US would intervene if he just invaded Kuwait, and she told him it was not our policy to get involved in disputes between countries in the Middle East.

But going back further, Saddam would not have been in power in the first place without some massive help from the US. WE chose the Ba'ath party to rule Iraq. We gave them money, arms and training and then pointed them towards Iran. We gave them the materials and training to make WMD, and when Saddam used the gas that killed all those civilians in Halabja the US govt. looked the other way, insisting that it had been Iranian gas (and in fact there's some evidence that this was true!)

Saddam was 'our friend in the region'. We couldn't do enough for him. So long as he would sell us the oil really cheap and fight Iran for us. When he stopped cooperating, -then- he was Worse than Hitler, he was 'irrational' and all he would understand was violence.

The first President Bush, like his son, refused to try diplomacy or sanctions to solve the dispute. He hyped up the threat of Saddam, saying that Saddam planned to take over the entire Middle East (which was a lie). He said satellite photos showed Iraqi troops massed on the Saudi border (which turned out to be another lie).

My theory is this, but you have to go back to the mid 80's ( at least ) when the Iraq Iran war was in progress. Iraq does not have any sea bordering it's country, so it has an ever increasing problem getting shipping to offload i.e. containers. They shared a river at the north western tip of the gulf, but it wasn't enough for Iraq -- hence the invasion of Iran to try and get all the river for themselves. While this war was on ( and I was out there at the time delivering containers ) all sea freight bound for Iraq actually came into port in Kuwait. My guess is that Iraq got fed up with the might of Iran, so decided to roll over Kuwait because it is a very small place. I sat and watched many rocket attacks, missiles etc., etc., back in the 80's, and believe it or not, became quite complacent about it all.

I guess, you mean, why Saddam went in 1989 into Kuwait, when he has oil himself coming out his ears? Good question, if you meant that. Saddam complaint, that Kuwait pumped oil from Iraq oil fields in Rumailia 17 July/90 and Kuwait dumped oil prices on the world market. Iraq was piss poor after the 7 year war with Iran, the USA had him gotten into (Remember, Saddam was our ally against the bad Iranians and we supplied the weapons). On the other side, Bush senior was politically in deep dodo, after the mess he created in Panama end of 1989, shooting up a totally defenseless country in the search for Noriega (Sectr. of defense was our friend Cheney).
Come 2 Aug. 1990, Saddam went after the dictatorship of Kuwait, in itself worse as any can be. Bush needed a new war to get his ratings up quick. Some lucky coincidences!
Voila, Desert Storm and Saddam was not anymore Rumsfelds and Cheney's buddy.

i like the Arab recommendations We(Iraq) pick this (Shatt Al Arab , greater oil fees ,Kuwait or regardless of) .They for this reason enter into negotiations wherein they only state -- we are larger and more desirable so provide us what we call for -- or we can invade you. So Iraq invades Kuwait, kidnaps, tortures and rapes Kuwaiti electorate, oftentimes loots the area, seizes its oil fields and then threatens Saudi Arabia -- and you ask what has that to do with the West or anybody else ? Do you ever ask your self why Arabs/Islam get this manner of undesirable press international huge

Two reasons:

a: Kuwait was historically part of Iraq and he wanted to reclaim it.
b: Kuwait was "slant" drilling, meaning it was drilling for oil in Iraqi territory.

Probably he is developing a Napoleonic complex after the Iran/Iraq wars and the Tanker War during 1980-88 . During which the US gave him their full support with weapons, intelligence and economic aid (Rumsfeld)

Because he could and because that is the nature of the Beast. Arabs are well-oiled killing machines. Every hand is against his brother. And every brother is against him. Iraq is the killing ground for Osama bin Laden, Al Queda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Lydia and Egypt. Tribe fighting Tribe and all in the name of their god Allah.
