Sadly, the best cure is to rest your voice as much as you can; you're most likely to get it back faster, the more the vocal cords are rested.

If you lost it due to a cold, general things to help a cold will help - cold medicine, vitamins, eating well and getting sufficient rest. Some people swear by Airborne or zinc tablets, to help reduce symptoms/duration of colds. As for symptoms, hot tea often helps soothe the throat; a friend of mine swears by hot tea with a little lemon and rum in it.

If due to abuse of the vocal cords (like yelling at a concert) ... well, rest the voice, and tea.

Good luck!

When a voice is lost ....trying to continue to talk will only make it worse and delay the healing process. Most people will understand your situation and will not force you. Communicate in writing and enjoy the silence.

You could gargle with salt water. Drink hot lemon tea. The best way is to rest it as much as possible. You've strained your vocal cords.

Try hot tea with honey and lemon. It sure works for me. It is usually viral, but sometimes erythromycin helps, if you are not allergic. Check with your doctor, of course.
