What is there to do in Sumter, South Carolina (or close by) for a day trip in December?

I am planning a day trip to Sumter South Carolina in December to see the Sumter Fantasy Of Lights (Iris Gardens). I am looking for other attractions in the area as well as good restaurants (and price ranges) that we may be able to include in the day trip.
We are interested in lots of things...history, art, museums, shopping, aquariums, etc. Anything you know of would be great!!!
