This discussion begins:

"The Day the Dancers Came" presents a similar story, but from the standpoint of host rather than guest. This time, the professional Filipinos are a troupe of dancers that have come to Chicago to give a performance. It is November in the Windy City, where an elderly pair of manongs, Antonio "Tony" Bataller and Filemon "Fil" Acayan, live together. (9) Fil is a dancing enthusiast: "Ever since you heard of those dancers from the Philippines, you've been acting nuts. Loco. As if they're coming here just for you," Tony complains (113). He is right; Fil seems to have fixated irrationally on the visiting young practitioners of tinikling. (10) His reasons are not hard to imagine.

The general rule to become absolutely perfect at something is hard, focused practice for around 10,000 hours. MJ was forced to practice, by his parents, from a very young age. He missed his childhood to be what was thought of as a great singer-dancer.... but all that practice also had tragic consequences as anyone can see, he was messed up mentally and emotionally. So- we don't need anymore kids who are forced to be "stars" by their parents. The cost is too high. Hopefully, more people are recognizing that fact, and thus, we dont have as many young, accomplished "stars" today.
