I resolved 5 more questions in the last 2 days, and lo and behold, not one single post of a mere "thanks," "thx" or "ty" from the recipients of the Best Answer. Does this imply "common courtesy" is anything BUT COMMON?

One has a right to disagree w/ me, but if you light my cig or move out of my way -ANY small courtesy - and i WILL thank you. Points don't 'mean' anything , but i am GIVING, you are RECEIVING.
Courtesy dictates a small thanks in THIS old fashioned mind. Do as you wish.

in my entire time on YA, I have gotten no more than 7 emails or comments thanking me for a BA. But then again, I can't remember the last time I thanked someone for a BA, so I'm part of the problem

When I first started using this site, and got Best Answer, I didn't really understand how to contact people or that I could thank them. However, the first time I choose a Best Answer and got a response, I started trying to do the same. Some people do not allow e-mail contact.

I was not aware that it was required or even good etiquette to go back and thank the questioner for a Best Answer. Be certain that I will now start this policy IF I get any Best Answers!

Common courtesy does not exist. It went out the window with the terms 'customer satisfaction, and 'guaranteed'.

I am sorry. I didn't happen to see any of your questions, that I recall. I usually try to make it a point to sent a thank you message or at the very least a comment at the end if the asker does not allow email.

Its rude I know...but you are right common courtesy is anything but common!! I always put something in the comment box! Even if its just "thank you for your answer!"

I don't thank people when I get best answer...does that make me a bad person? Being chosen is the asker's way of saying "Thank you for your help"...if I were to respond with anything, it would be "You're Welcome." Catch my drift? I think I may have received one thank you from the questions I've asked, but it doesn't even come close to bothering me when I don't get one.

I agree with you! A simple thanks would be nice, I have never seen anyone die from saying thank you!!! I just got on line for the first time today, so much drama drama drama going on in my life, I like to check out my contacts and see whats going on with them and ran across this... I think you have a killer since of humor and love reading your stuff... Keep up the good work...

Etiquette is one thing, but I think you're looking for way too much out of something kind of silly. I've never heard of having to give thanks for receiving a best answer on here, and I've yet to meet anyone that does - present company excepted. This is not a formal forum or letter-writing class. This is just ideas bouncing everywhere. But I often give thanks when I pick the best answer on there...not as a separate email.

It sounds like you need the thanks very badly. Some people thank me and some don't. I guess my advice is don't take it personally or stress about it too much. People are people and the best bet is to just let it go and focus on other things and be glad you're able to contribute.
