Swelling in the hand/finger may last for around 5 days, although it should be improving as each day passes, you may still notice some slight swelling, nothing major, for a few weeks. Ensure that the splint is not wrapped too tightly, as this will impede circulation and contribute to the swelling problem. it should be loose enough for you too fit two fingers snugly under the edge of the bandage. It's a good idea not to let your left hand hang dependent; i.e., keep the hand elevated while your sitting and watching TV or what have you. We tend to guard those type of injuries while we are walking and moving around, but you may let it drop/rest at your side while sitting. Keeping the hand elevated, say on a couple of pillows in your lap while sitting or at your side while lying, will help promote good circulation and reduce the risk of swelling. Ice can be applied for 10 minute intervals, 10 on/10 off, every few hours. If the swelling doesn't begin to resolve, pain increases, numbness or tingling occurs, contact your physician immediately.

Speaking from previous broken finger experience, it will take almost the whole healing time of 6-8 weeks for the swelling to go away completly.

Get some cinnamon oil and clove oil. use 2 cups of hot water and 10 drops of each, dip in a clean washcloth and apply to swelling. It will reduce swelling and pain by the second application. (once the cloth cools down rewarm it)

You've got a good 5 days until you see some really good improvement. Until then ice it for 20 mins every hr to help quell the swelling.

your taking care of it at home.....didn't go to the doctor....bad move...could end up croOKed for the rest of your life....ok enough of that...make sure you tape it to the other two fingers next to it...this helps keep it straight and heal better and faster.....ice 20 min once an hour for at least 8-10 hours....Tylenol will help with pain.....take it easy and use the other hand as much as possible......
I'm a nurse.....so I hope this has helped....
