My DSL modem got interfered by another telphone upstair. Why is that? What else eletronics should I avoid? and where is the best place for DSL modem?

The best place is in a centralized location away from any wireless devices like a telephone. Or if for some reason you have to have it near a telephone make sure that both have a different frequency. One has to be 2.4 and the other one has to be 5.8.

u can keep it just close to your laptop or computer in your home. And can install or enable firewall and setup proxy or enable secure access (u shud hv a cd to install / configure the modem and u shud hv option to secure your connection so others can't access even if they get the leaky electrons out).
