How about stating "We hold these sites as being sacred to our religion, but we hold the sanctity of human life and peace as a higher good. To show that we are committed to this we surrendering all claims to them and this country. We will not engage in any violence and request that all people involved lay down their arms and seek to build a peaceful united country that respects the rights of all. "
That would make a big impact on all, both nations and religions.

You can look look for local chapter of Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East or the Coalition for Justice in the Middle East or other such groups. Even Jews for Justice in the Middle East. There are a lot of awarness-raising groups out there.
You might also look into the Rachel Corrie Foundation for ideas and links to other groups.

Here's a creative thought:
Why? they found the bones of muhammed, that means he is dead. Therefore, that means his "religion" is also. Why recruit more innocents for a dead theology?
