Whose rule is this?
There is no reason you can't use the towel again. Especially if you hang it up to dry.
Peace.
EDIT: Oh my goodness, so many people afraid of their own bodies. Who would've thought??? But the same logic can be applied to your bed sheets, do you change them every day??? Or your furniture, do you clean it after every use??? Cleanliness is a must but obsession is very un-healthy. The human body has the remarkable ability to ADAPT to it's environment. New bacteria is always present, exposure breeds resistance to disease. To try and avoid all contamination's would make one more susceptible to diseases when you do become exposed. Geez people, use your shower but don't become so "afraid" of disease that you also become sick in the head with the obsession.

You can for a few times in a row. But when you use it, then two things happen. First, even if you are clean upon the initial showering, you are a living thing so you will immediately start to shed and excrete stuff, and your towel will collect this small amount. Second, the towel gets rather wet and will not dry completely in a quick fashion, thus allowing an environment for bacteria to grow. So upon the next use it will be slightly dirty, then even more so upon future uses.

I will reuse a "clean" towel a couple times but since bacteria can grow on a damp towel and bacteria can cause illness, it is in more sanitary and in your best interest to replace it with a fresh one every other day. Besides, are you sure you got yourself 100% clean before using the towel in the first place.....even all your dirtiest spots?

Yes but the towel gets wet and while showering the bathroom gets warm and moist which makes a great home for bacteria!!! If you must use the same towel twice throw it in the dryer after you are done and dry it on high heat

When you dry off you are stilll shedding skin cells which wipe off onto the towel... Also, the towel needs to dry throughly or mold/bacteria will feast on the dead skin cells.. So, it's a good idea to wash your towel every few days or so...

you can. though i would use a clean one after about 3 uses. if its not drying properly it will get mildewy, which can smell. also when you dry you are wiping off dead skin cells onto the towel. not to mention body hair. just like washing your washcloth its good to wash your towel after so many uses.

My goodness - who would have thought such a lot of advice would flow, some heatedly, on this subject!
I wash my towel, btw, twice a week, but I wash my husband's after two showers...more than that and his smells!

Okay, I use the same towel for a week? Am I disgusting?
Mine gets hung up to dry in between uses - so it doesn't go mouldy or smell!
