My husband's birthday is coming and he's been always wanting a gun nailer. We already have a compressor so a gun-nailer compressor compatible will be ok.

Can you tell me what brand I should pick?
What are the things I need to check before buying one?

You need to understand what kind of nailing he will be doing. Will it be framing, finish work or small wood projects?

I build furniture and odd jobs around the house. I have a brad nailer and a finish nailer. I started with the brad nailer and added the finish nailer later.

For the average wood worker, a brad nailer is a good place to start. I'd buy that and if he wants to exchange it, Lowes or Home Depot will do that.

Brand wise, I have a Senco brad nailer and a Porter Cable finish nailer. Both have given excellent service.

I remember about a guy coming down a ladder. This other guy was holding it. The man coming down was holding the gun and hit the others hard hat, nailing it to his head.
Go to a lumber store like Lowe's or Home Depot. They have good brands like Hitachi and Bostitch.
Nailers are usually specific to want you need. There are brad nailers that put picture frames together. Finish nailers for trim work. Framing nailers for nailing 2x4' and walls together.
I would want a Framing Gun first. But, I do have a brad nailer that was given to me for making picture frames.

Do realize what nails for these cost, but, for time saving and better work they can be worth the money.

Its all about what works for you.I have several dozen nail guns form a lot of manufacturers. For the long haul I would have to say Senco is the best. From the framing nailer to the brad nailer they never fail.I have some that I have used for over ten years without a single problem.
