Pink Floyd is a massive influence of prog rock and was one of the first Prog bands to ever break into mainstream. And they had so many phases so they contribute to so many aspects of prog rock. Don't forget Dark Side is probably the most famous concept album.

Music is a subjective thing and not easily determined as a finite answer,has there is a plethora of groups which contributed to this musical genre. Certainly early Genesis was a leader of Progressive rock ,even early Moody Blues ,King Crimson

I think anyone that doesnt mention RUSH in their list is just crazy and in the more modern era Dream Theater has done a stellar job of keeping the genre relevant.
