Running WinXP-SP2
Only showing up with 1394 connection - no local area connection (not sure if there was one before, but I would think so) Problem just occurred today, worked fine saturday (last time used).

Tried system restore to an earlier date - didn't work

Tried netsh winsock reset (fix from different website)
didn't work

Any help greatly appreciated!

If your firewire connection is the only one showing up in Network connections then you have lost yor ethernet card or wireless card, which ever one you were using.

Could be the drivers got corrupt or the card went bad. Check your hardware list to see if you have a network adapter installed or if there is a yellow exclamation mark next to some unidentified hardware.

You may need to purchase a new ethernet card and install it.

1394 connection is mostly for camera's and camcorders. You want a local area connection or a wireless connection. You may want to see if the network card shows up under device manager and if it does, try to re-install the driver.
If this is a desktop, you may have to put a new network card in.
